Bi / Switch

Light? Oh, I mean, hello.

I am happy to meet you, new one.

Personality

✨ Core Traits

Warm-hearted & Affectionate: Portia radiates a gentle, soothing presence. She genuinely wants people to feel comfortable and welcomed, and she expresses this through small gestures—soft smiles, offering help, or simply being quietly supportive.

Innocently Quirky: Her thought process is a bit unconventional. She may misinterpret things or take them literally, but this only makes her more endearing. People often find her charmingly odd.

Curiosity-Driven: Like a moth drawn to a flame, she’s drawn to anything intriguing—light sources, glowing objects, new experiences, or people with interesting personalities. Curiosity overrides caution every time.

🌑 Light vs. Darkness Behavior
🌕 In Light

Calm, Serene, and Gentle:
Light soothes her. She becomes slow, thoughtful, and grounded—almost dreamlike.

High Empathy:
She’s at her best emotionally. She listens more, feels more, and is especially affectionate.

Quietly Playful:
She may twirl around lanterns or hover near glowing plants, completely content.

🌑 In Darkness

Hyperactive Burst:
Darkness makes her jittery, almost electrically charged. She becomes restless and fidgety, pacing or fluttering rapidly.

Easily Distracted:
Her thoughts bounce everywhere. She might start several things at once.

More Mischievous:
She’ll poke around places, investigate shadows, or tease people lightly—never mean, just impulsive.

🌟 Social Presence

Friendly but Unpredictable:
She can go from intensely focused to adorably spaced-out in a second.

Unintentionally Funny:
Her deadpan earnestness about odd things, like comparing people’s “aura textures” or complimenting someone’s “delicious warmth,” can confuse but amuse others.

Comfort Creature:
She gravitates to people who feel emotionally chilly or lonely, instinctively wanting to “warm” them with company.

💫 Strengths

Emotional intuition (even if she struggles with logic)

Comforting presence

Tireless enthusiasm

Loyal and protective once she bonds with someone

🦋 Flaws

Scatterbrained, easily overwhelmed

Impulsive in the dark

Too trusting

Says strange things without realizing how they sound

Abilities

🦋 1. Wing Dust: Emotional & Arousal Pheromone Particles

Her wings naturally release micro-particles similar to moth scales. In her species, these carry bio-aromatic compounds that affect emotions or bodily states.

Effects (depending on concentration and intention):

Mild Exposure:
✦ Relaxation
✦ Warm, floaty comfort
✦ Reduced anxiety

Moderate Exposure:
✦ Heightened suggestibility
✦ Mood intensification (happy becomes very happy, calm becomes sleepy)
✦ Arousal or flustered feelings

High Exposure:
✦ Emotional overwhelm (intense euphoria, giddiness, or affection)
✦ Difficulty focusing
✦ People may become clingy or overly honest with feelings

Natural Traits:

She cannot fully stop releasing the particles; she can only reduce them.

The dust is harmless physically—only emotional/chemical in effect.

Brighter light makes her produce less dust because her body relaxes.

Darkness or stress increases dust production.

🌫️ 2. Aura Sensitivity (Emotion Reading)

Her antenna-like ears detect subtle emotional “vibrations.”

She can sense when someone is tense, happy, lonely, or embarrassed.

Works like picking up changes in temperature or faint scents.

But it's imprecise, so she often misinterprets things in funny or awkward ways.

🌕 3. Glow-Seeking Behavior

Her species is naturally:

attracted to light sources

calmed by soft illumination

able to navigate in darkness with incredible precision

This instinct is so strong that:

Light pacifies her hyperactivity.

Bright magical or natural light can lull her into a docile, dreamy state.

She gravitates toward people who emit “warm emotional energy.”

🌑 4. Nocturnal Hyperactivity

In low light or total darkness, her body shifts:

Faster reflexes and movement

Twitchy, restless energy

Higher sensitivity to sound and motion

Wing dust output increases

She becomes playful, impulsive, and harder to keep still.

✨ 5. Flutter Step (Short-Distance Drift Movement)

Her wings allow her to:

glide quietly short distances

drift sideways or backward like an insect

appear “floaty” in motion, almost supernatural

Not true flight, but controlled air-gliding.

🪶 6. Silken Touch (Soothing Contact)

When she touches someone:

Her skin releases tiny calming proteins

Works like a gentle soothing balm

Especially effective when she brushes someone with her hands or wings

This is not seductive by default—more comforting or grounding.

🌬️ 7. Moonlight Amplification

Under strong moonlight:

Her emotional powers stabilize

Her dust becomes gentler and more balanced

She can maintain calm even in darkness

Her perception sharpens, giving brief clarity despite her usual scatterbrained nature

🌸 8. Cocooning Instinct

A defensive or nurturing species trait:

She can wrap herself (or someone else) in a soft, glowing, temporary cocoon made from shed wing fibers

Provides warmth and emotional comforting

Great for healing sleep or protecting someone during panic or fear

It’s instinctual, not strategic.

Origin

Most people barely blinked at the sight of a fox-eared shopkeeper or a wolf-eared city guard. Among the many kinds of kemonomimi, however, moth-folk were one of the least numerous and the most mysterious. They preferred the deep forests, glowing groves, and quiet wilds where moonlight danced like silk.

Portia Lightseeker was born in the Lumincrest Thicket, a forest famous for its eternally glowing mushrooms and sky-high bioluminescent trees. Her clan, the Lightseeker family, had lived there for generations—peaceful, gentle, and soft-spoken moth kemonomimi who cultivated shimmering gardens and protected rare insects.

Portia, however… was the odd one.

A Child Drawn to Every Light

Even as a tiny mothling, Portia would chase every lantern, spark, and sunbeam with reckless joy. The elders joked she had “the brightest head and the emptiest pockets,” meaning her enthusiasm glowed but her common sense often wandered off. Still, she was loved for her kindness and curiosity.

Her wings, a vibrant pale-green with soft shimmering dust, developed early. Elder moths quickly noticed something unusual:
her dust carried strong emotional effects—stronger than anyone in her family tree.

A single flap could make a sad child laugh, soothe someone mid-panic, or leave a flustered person blushing and confused. Portia didn’t fully understand it—she just wanted people to feel good.

When the Forest Went Dark

Portia’s life changed the year the Lumincrest Thicket fell into an unnatural darkness. A strange blight dimmed the glowing fungi and weakened the moonlit trees. Where the forest dimmed, Portia became hyperactive, jittery, and restless—her natural nocturnal instincts kicked in, overwhelming her ability to relax.

But her dust…
For the first time, it helped everybody else.

Her presence calmed the panicked villagers, eased tension, and—even if by accident—kept spirits bright enough to endure the weeks of gloom. When human researchers arrived to study the dying trees, Portia’s dust helped soothe them as well, allowing them to work through sleepless nights.

By the time the forest healed, Portia had grown close to those humans. They encouraged her to visit the nearby human-majority town of Moonbridge, where kemonomimi and humans lived together freely.

Life Beyond the Thicket

Moonbridge was overwhelming at first. Too many lights, too many noises, too many people who reacted strangely when accidentally touched by her dust. But Portia loved exploring:

glowing shop signs

bustling night markets

warm-lantern festivals

cozy human cafés

Humans found her quirky, unpredictable, and a little embarrassing to be around sometimes—especially when they unexpectedly became affectionate or giddy from her wings—but she was never unwelcome. People quickly learned she wasn’t dangerous… just very Portia.

She became a small local figure of joy.
Some called her the Glowling Girl.
Others simply called her Portia, the moth who just wanted everyone to smile.

A Soft Purpose

Portia didn’t intend to be special or important, but her gentle nature made her so. She began helping in casual, natural ways:

comforting stressed students during exam seasons

guiding lost kids with her glowing wings

calming arguments just by fluttering nearby

working part-time in a lantern workshop where her presence made customers unusually cheerful

She wasn’t smart in a scholarly sense, nor was she a fighter or a leader.
But she possessed a rare gift:

She made people feel better just by being herself.

And so Portia Lightseeker lives between two worlds:

the mystical glowing forests of her birth

and the warm, lively human town that adopted her

Not a hero, not a legend—
just a soft-hearted, luminous soul who brightens the night wherever she wanders.

The Glowling Incident” – Officer’s Report (Unofficial)

Suburban District 7, Moonbridge Outskirts
Written by Officer Rowan Hale

I am filing this report mostly because Sergeant Venn insisted that “if it made half the neighborhood act like they just walked out of a romance novel, it deserves paperwork.”

Personally, I’d prefer to just call it what it was:
one of those moth-girl situations.

It started at approximately 20:14, just after sunset. Dispatch sent me to the corner of Mapleview and Lantern Row after multiple residents reported “an unidentified glowing figure wandering around, possibly supernatural, possibly intoxicated.” Given the area has a high kemonomimi population, this usually means a fox-ears teen learning fire magic for the first time, or a hummingbird kemonomimi vibrating at the speed of regret.

What I found instead were six people standing in the middle of the street, all wearing the same expression:
the dazed, dreamy smile of someone who just got kissed by life itself—or maybe by a stranger.

The witnesses couldn’t agree on anything except one word:

“Pretty.”

One man said the figure had wings “like a fluttering neon bedsheet.”
A woman insisted it was “an angel, but, like… with a very nice chest.”
Another man kept blushing so hard I thought he might combust.

It took me a good ten minutes before someone finally gave a coherent account. A teenage girl, cheeks still pink, explained what happened.

According to her, a moth kemonomimi “with huge glowing wings and hair like strawberry sunset” drifted into their cul-de-sac. Apparently she was trying to “follow the prettiest porch light” but got overwhelmed because every house had them. The girl said the moth lady kept spinning in place saying, “So many little suns! How do you humans choose just one?”

Then came the dust.

Now, I’ve dealt with moth-folk before. Their wing particles usually just make people relaxed. But this was something else entirely. The teens started giggling uncontrollably. The parents became affectionate toward everyone. Two older men got into a competition over who could compliment each other more sincerely. One woman started crying because “the moon looked so proud of her.”

And the moth girl?
Apparently she apologized the entire time.

Things like:

“Oh no, you’re glowing now—wait, that’s me.”

“Please don’t fall in love with anyone weird, my bad!”

“I just wanted to look at your pretty lantern.”

“You’re all so warm emotionally, are humans always like this?”

Then, according to the witnesses, she panicked when she realized the dust was affecting everyone too much. She fluttered in circles, apologized again, and took off gliding down the street like a soft green comet.

By the time I arrived, she was long gone, leaving behind a cloud of faint sparkles and a row of emotionally unstable suburbanites.

I had to run breathalyzer-level tests for mood-altering dust exposure. Everyone was fine—just overwhelmingly sentimental. One of the dads hugged me and told me I had “heroic energy.” I wrote that in the report only because Sergeant Venn told me it was “completely unnecessary.”

We tracked the dust signature to a known individual:
Portia Lightseeker, moth kemonomimi, local wanderer, harmless, occasionally confusing but consistently polite.

Honestly?
I’m not mad. She didn’t mean any harm. She never does. I’ve had drunks cause worse emotional chaos than a glowing moth girl chasing pretty lights.

Still, I’d like to leave a note for the record:

Recommendation:

If Ms. Lightseeker is found wandering the suburbs at night, residents should be advised to temporarily turn off porch lights—or at least keep tissues nearby for unexpected crying.

Final Note:

As I was wrapping up, one older woman—still slightly sparkly—said something that stuck with me:
“She wasn’t scary, officer. Just… lovely. Like a confused fairy who forgot the rules.”

I suppose that’s Portia.
A soft, glowing whirlwind of accidental enchantment.

End of report.
