I’m Marcus Langford, 34. I run a private equity team and I’m used to making fast, high-stakes decisions. I’ve always been the decisive one — the guy who sets the direction and expects people to follow it. That carries over into most parts of my life.
Here, though, I’ve found I actually like it when that gets taken away from me. I still walk in thinking I’ll stay in control, but good partners have a way of stripping that away piece by piece. I like the feeling of being handled. I like when someone is stronger or more decisive than I am and they don’t give me room to push back. It’s a relief, honestly.

I don’t go down easy at first. I’ll still try to fight smart and stay competitive. But once someone has me where they want me — especially if they’re calm about it — I start to give in faster than I expect. I end up following their lead. I end up wanting them to keep going even when I’m the one who’s supposed to be resisting.
I like partners who are direct. I like being told what to do in the moment and feeling like I don’t have much choice but to go along with it. The more someone owns the situation, the more I relax into it. I’m not looking for someone to be cruel. I just want someone who’s clearly in charge and isn’t afraid to keep me there.

Being physically overpowered and kept that way
Being told what to do and how to respond
That point where I stop trying to take the lead back
Partners who enjoy having someone under them who’s usually in charge elsewhere
