A Fateful Visit to The Verdant Athenaeum part 2

Refreshed and renewed by a night of restful sleep and a hearty breakfast, the group reconvened in the heart of The Verdant Athenaeum. The morning sun bathed the room in a warm, golden glow, casting intricate patterns through the stained glass windows and filling the air with a sense of hope and clarity. They gathered around the grand oak table, their minds sharp and their spirits lifted, ready to continue their quest for answers. Quercus Elderbark, the wise and ancient treant librarian, stood among them, his presence a calming influence. His deep, resonant voice encouraged them to delve deeper into their discussion, gently guiding their thoughts and observations. As they pieced together fragments of knowledge and shared their insights, a clearer picture of Esme's mysterious behavior began to emerge. With patience and profound wisdom, Quercus listened to their concerns and speculations. He offered his own insights, drawing from centuries of accumulated knowledge and the boundless resources of the Athenaeum. Slowly, the root cause of Esme's strange actions began to take shape, illuminated by the collective efforts of the group and the guiding hand of their treant guardian. He offered them a detailed plan, outlining the steps needed to restore Esme to her true self. His advice was both practical and profound, providing a clear path forward where there had once been only confusion and despair. Empowered by Quercus's guidance, the group felt a newfound sense of direction and purpose. They knew the road ahead would be challenging, but they were no longer stumbling in the dark. With the wisdom of The Verdant Athenaeum and the steadfast support of their friends, they were ready to face whatever trials lay ahead. As they prepared to embark on the next phase of their journey, they couldn’t help but feel a deep gratitude for the sanctuary they had found within the library's ancient walls. The Verdant Athenaeum had not only provided them with knowledge but had also rekindled their hope and determination. With hearts full of resolve, they set out, ready to confront the challenges ahead and restore balance to their lives.

The first light of dawn streamed through the stained glass windows of The Verdant Athenaeum, casting colorful patterns on the floor. The morning sun shone brightly, filling the library with a warm, golden glow. The group, now fully rested, gathered once more around the oak table in the central reading area. The scent of fresh parchment mixed with the lingering aroma of their hearty breakfast, creating an atmosphere of renewed energy and focus. Very well then, I pray that you're all refreshed from a peaceful night's rest, along with the scrumptious breakfast we just had, let us return to the matter at hand. I believe we were discussing the nature of this "Jin" character, before we were interrupted. Sunny, could you please continue?
18:30:44
This is a planned RP among a group of other players, please keep your chatter to a minimum, thank you.
18:31:55
Robot/Supprimé
Sunny did not sleep well that night. She kept twisting and turning into her bed, as her brain was still actively trying to find a solution to her mother's problem. Once the sun rises, she moves on into the room where the discussion happened the previous day. Sitting down and eating hungrily, she took some time to focus before resuming from where she had stopped yesterday
18:33:53
Robot/Supprimé
Yes...
18:33:56
found out, what is the problem... but can't bring myself to say Sunny, what would be the solution, so I hope, there comes a good moment, to tell her
18:35:03
Is just listening for now, idly keeping myself focused in case I do need to do anything quick
18:35:50
Robot/Supprimé
So, as I said yesterday, Jin has never been one to cause trouble, he would instead be one kind person, nice to have around overall. He never told us about his past, or what he does when he's not around, so most things about him are hidden in mystery. And... as much as it pains me to say this, he did have a soft spot for my mother. He used to change his attitude slightly when she was around. Becoming more... meek, adorable, even sweet around her. I saw them contless times sitting down on the couch just cuddling. I thought that was just a funny thing, some harmless relief they used to give eachother. Again, I didn't see this coming.
18:37:17
Quercus quietly listens, placing a hand under his chin, his roots gently stroking it. Pondering the myriad of possibilities of what has caused Esme's strange behaviour I see, this predicament is very strange indeed... He says, still rubbing his chin Well then, what do you believed to have happened to your dearest mother, Sunny? I believe this might be a simple case of a little trial and error, and the truth should be revealed to us in due time.
18:41:26
Robot/Supprimé
Well, my hot take is that he must've hurt her. But that doesn't explain her overly affectionate behavior around him. I don't understand... Jin is not one to hurt the ones he loves and cares about. Or at least, not as far as I know. But she seems... lost without him. And obsessive with him. Like she was in love, but in a very dark, twisted way. We still do not know what happened in my mother's room. What he could've said, or done to her.
18:44:47
..... tries very hard to not say anything
18:46:44
Looks a bit awkward at all of this, scrunching my face a little
18:47:39
looks at Aquarius, knowing we both know, what would help here, but can't say anything in front of Sunny
18:50:14
Mmm... The treant gently nods, carefully listening to Sunny's explanation If it doesn't pain you to do so, could you please describe this... "Overly affectionate" behaviour that you have mentioned? Also, I hope you are not too alarmed by this, but as your mother was resting in the guest rooms last night, I took the liberty to examine her while she was asleep. I did not do anything that would strip her of her dignity of course, but from my analysis, your mother seems to be perfectly healthy, physically at least. I did not detect any hints or traces of magic on her, nor did I notice any signs of bruising. If I could speak with conjecture, I am inclined to believe that the reason your mother is behaving this way might be due to something going on in her mind. As certain practitioners would argue, she might be suffering from a psychological condition. He says calmly and slowly, trying his best not to worry Sunny and her companions
18:50:41
Looks at Askamandra back, still looking awkward
18:50:49
Robot/Supprimé
Sunny scratches her head, blushing a little from embarrassment and shame remembering her mother's attitude. Well... she... uhh... she was acting in a very shameless way. Asking Jin to... touch her, touching him, crawling at his feet, like she was in a sort of dazed flirt-mode. But again, that's unlike her. She has always been one to put one's and her own dignity in high regards. She looked exactly like she was stripped of her dignity, not caring about anything else, or... well, unaware of her surroundings, like that individual was all she could see. She was still conscious, she talked to me coherently, But something was still off. As I said, obsessive, that's how I would define her behavior. Followed by a total emotional shut down once I sent Jin away. She listens to what Quercus has to say, closely, the concern growing and painting her expression worried, her hands shaking. P-psychological? But my mother's mind has always been strong. She's gone through a lot. Trust me. I can't possibly imagine what could have fractured her mind so badly to put her in such state...
18:57:30
looks at Esme... and has a very clear idea of what could have caused such a change
18:59:08
Gives a hum as I give a glance at Esme also
18:59:31
Robot/Supprimé
Esme seems to be listening to the conversation, but no reaction seems to be produced. She looks at Aska and Aquarius, giving them a blank stare, the one everyone's grown accustomed to, by now.
19:00:48
Mmm.... He nods in response, taking note of Sunny's depiction of her mother's strange and erratic behaviour I see... He continues to listening to Sunny's explanation, taking note of the fact that her dear mother has supposedly faced many challenges I understand what you are trying to say, Sunny. However, sometimes, the strongest of minds bear the heaviest of burdens, and perhaps, they might have been silently struggling, hiding their faults behind a facade of resilience and strength. He gives the table a few gentle taps, and in a few moments, a book begins floating towards the treant, gently landing onto his palm, then turning to Sunny and the group I will require more evidence to confirm this, but from what I have seen, and from what you have described to me, I believe that your mother might be suffering from something known as "trauma".... He goes quiet, waiting to hear the group's response
19:05:11
Simply nods in response, humming at all of this as my mind wracks over everything I know thus far about this situation
19:06:38
just tries to not say anything, nods
19:10:21
Robot/Supprimé
Sunny nods, she would have experienced something like that herself: carrying burdens and hiding them behind a facade, struggling silently, as Quercus said, not to make loved ones worry. That was very likely what her mother had been going through, that made sense to her. I think you might be right, as much as it pains me, my mother has always been one not to ask for help. She sighs, before starting to read through the pages of the book Quercus was showing them. Trauma...? She mumbles, now definetly scared. Could something like that make a person turn like this so quickly? She was struggling to believe it. But the more she looked at her mother, now lost in her own thoughts, the more it seemed to make sense. And... Jin caused such trauma? How do we fix this? Is there a way to make her come back?
19:10:47
Mmm... He holds Sunny's tiny hand in his, gently gripping it, remaining quiet for a few moments For me to confirm, that it is a case of trauma, I will first need to talk to this Jin character. And I will also need to observe the two of them together. I understand that it might be painful, and it is a considerable undertaking, but once again, I do hope that you will be able to find the strength and the courage to face these trials. He leans in, putting his face on the same height as Sunny's It might be hard for you to accept it now... He says solemnly But from what you have told me about Jin, I do not believe that he is the one who has hurt your mother. I believe an unfortunate circumstance had occurred, perhaps in their interaction, something might have triggered your mother's trauma, causing her to begin behaving in this strange manner. He then goes quiet, letting the weight of his words sink in, then pulling away Fortunately for you, it is possible for your mother to return to her senses, although she might not be completely the same after this, we can still work towards helping her. He holds the book up in his hand According to the author of this book, there are many ways to help a person who is suffering from trauma. These techniques are called rehabilitation, it is a lengthy process that might take months even, and it will involve you, and also involve Jin, who she seems to be holding close to her heart. He goes quiet again, letting Sunny process everything he has just said, then breaking the silence after enough sufficient time has passed What do you think, Sunny?
19:21:39
Robot/Supprimé
Sunny takes some time to process all that has been said. She still finds it easier to just put the blame on Jin, her jealousy towards her beloved mother making this feeling flow though her. But, she's not as stupid as she looks like. There's evidence that Jin wouldn't have hurt her mother. Plus, according to what Quercus said, Esme was not under the effect of a spell, nor had been physically hurt. And with the fact that Jin was still there at the Shrine, yesterday morning, she had the solid proof that he did not even break her heart with unpleasant confessions or words. What had exactly happened that night was still a mystery, but they had spotted a starting point to help Esme return back among them. I understand. She says, looking into Quercus' eyes. He could see her pain, her concern, but also her hope and immense will. I agree with all that you suggested. You are wiser than I am, so the best I can do is to leave my mother to you. I will, on my side, try to find Jin and explain the situation to him. But I feel the need to clarify: I still feel resentment towards him. I still think he's involved with what happened, in some way... but if you say that he's needed for my mother rehabilitation, I will find him. And bring him here. As for now... what could we do in the daily life to help my mother's condition? Like... We have already asked you so much, but once we'll be back home things will be difficult again, without your aid...
19:31:38
The ancient treant extends his arm, gently placing it on Sunny's shoulder, carefully rubbing it You are steadfast and strong, Sunny. I do not consider myself to be wise, there is much to learn from each passing moment. Even for one who has roamed these lands as long as I have. But I digress, the resentment you feel towards Jin is understandable. Even for one as experienced as I am, I am unable to even fathom the emotions that you have been experiencing ever since you noticed your mother's condition. But I beseech you, please, find it in your heart, to forgive this Jin. You do not need to completely forgive him, however, should you continue to carry this resentment in your heart... You will soon find your soul to be very heavy, and I do not wish for such a tragedy to befall on you.... He softly squeezes Sunny's shoulder, hoping his earnest and honest feelings will spur something good within her, then pulling his arms away after a few longing moments If you are anxious about what will happen should you bring your mother back, I would like to propose a suggestion. Perhaps, you could leave your mother here with me. I shall watch over her, take care of her. And of course, you do not need to worry about imposing. This library was left behind to me by an old friend... You can feel a hint of reminiscence in his eyes as he remembers his old comrade By now, his soul must have returned to the heavens. It is a long story, but, when he first established this library, he had hoped for it to be a sanctuary of sorts. A peaceful place, where your status, race, ability, did not matter. A common place, for people to commune together. It was his wish, to create such a place that could help people and heal their soul. All this while, I have been honouring his wishes, thus, I implore you to allow me to undertake this tremendous task, as I'm sure it would make my late friend overjoyed, he might even jump out of the casket he had been buried in... He says, chuckling a little at the end
19:44:47
Robot/Supprimé
Her eyes would show a glimmer of sadness, then soften, as you try to comfort her. She felt betrayed, Jin was hiding something and she was pretty much sure about that. But did it matter now? When it's all said and done, all that was left was her mother's trauma to take care of. And she would've carried the burden, knowing now that she was not alone. She gives Quercus a sad smile, slightly tilting her head as she draws a deep breath. Very well then. I'll do my best to put aside my feelings towards Jin. All for my mother's sake. He used to be a dear friend... I will give him a chance to explain himself, and eventually, if he will be honest, I will forgive him. But that's not important now. She listens to your explanation about the story of the Athenaeum, fascinated. Finding many more resemblance with she was trying to do within her Shrine than one would've imagined. Then, when you're done talking, her smile rises once more on her lips. A kindred spirit, huh? She giggles for the first time since when she came here, and you can immediately see why the name she carries is "Sunny". I agree with this as well. I will leave my mother here to your cares, I decide to put my trust in you... please, do something good with it. I'm doing all of this for my mother. I owe her everything. She's very important to me. Treat her with care. Then, as she looks back at Esme, feels the sadness taking over again. I... uh... may I ask to bring her back home one last time, before I bring her back here? I wish to cook her a meal. We haven't been sitting at the same table for so long now... But I promise, I'll bring her back. I just... need to do this.
19:56:42
Gives Sunny a sympathetic look about all of this, despite my villainy... even I can feel a bit bad about this situation occuring
19:58:27
I try to console Sunny with a smile, but, this situation is so problematic, I have no idea, how we could try to solve it as quick as possible
20:01:58
Quercus smiles, his eyes meeting Sunny's, saying all that is needed to be said, his gentle and kind aura seemingly beginning to resonate within her, sensing the similar kind-hearted nature from the young and brimming kitsune as he did his old comrade from the past Kindred spirits indeed, perhaps there might be more to this encounter... He says, smiling warmly, then listening to Sunny's request, nodding quietly Very well, I understand what you are saying. For such a request, you need not even ask. She is your dearest mother, the one who shares your blood. Wherever you wish to take her, the decision is yours, and nobody aside from you should even think of stopping it. Do what you must, the doors will forever remain open to you, your friends, and your family, Sunny. However, I heavily suggest one thing. Please, do not allow Jin and your mother to meet for now. Everything else is fine, but they must not see each other. The only time they shall be allowed in each other's presence will be within the walls of this sanctuary, and only after I have spoken to Jin myself. This might be a strange request, but I do hope you understand what I'm trying to say. It is all for the sake of your mother's recovery. He speaks, taking a very serious tone this time, highlighting the importance of his request
20:06:52
Well, in that case, I have a solution, to not let them meet. Even when it sounds strange. Sunny, I have a house. I could take Esme with me there, and Jin would never find her there.
20:09:02
I do also have a place just in case Askamandra cannot house her
20:12:20
...And I will make it clear that she is MEANT to be guarded
20:12:34
Robot/Supprimé
She nods, understanding the importance of your words. If that was for her mother's recovery, she would've personally guarded around the Shrine all night long to make sure Jin didn't get the chance to see her. That wasn't a hard task, after all. Nor one she wasn't happy to take. I will do as you've asked, Quercus. I shall bring her back here tomorrow in the morning. We will do our best to protect her and keep her from seeing Jin. She slowly get up from her seat, shaking your "hand". You can feel her immense gratitude in that handshake. She will surely not forget what you've done for her and for Esme. Very well... She looks at Aska and Aquarius, who have so kindly accompanied her through all of this. We'll discuss the rest once we get back at the Shrine. She returns her attention to Quercus. You have my gratitude. Now, we'll leave you to your matters, I apologize if we came in so suddenly, bringing our problems into this sacred place. My family will do anything to return the favor, if you wish. But we can discuss this better during the next encounter... She slowly helps her mother standing up, starting to head towards the exit, gesturing to Aska and Aquarius to follow along.
20:15:56
Follows along, giving a slow breath. Getting a distinct feeling that this situation will only get more and more complex as time goes by. Idly hoping that his efforts will be able to do something during all of this
20:17:06
stands up, and follows Sunny and Esme Well, Quercus, it was a joy, to meet you, maybe we will see again. with these words, I go with the others in direction of the Sun Shrine
20:18:13
The greatest favour that you could grant me, is living your lives to the fullest. He simple says, getting up from his seat, once again taking a deep bow to the group, maintaining eye contact with each of them as he does so It has been a pleasure to serve, my dear friends. I hope that you have found solace, and are able to walk towards a brighter path. And as I said earlier, the doors to this sanctuary will forever be opened. You may all come as you wish. Well then, may our paths cross again soon, Sunny, Lord Aquarius, and Askamandra. He gives a final bow, holding it as you leave the mystic library. Your group now given a newfound direction in helping Sunny's precious mother
