Despite this, Holden is quite book dumb, her academic ability being outright questionable at best and horrid at worst. This combined with Holden frequently naivie nature and density causes her to be viewed as an idiot by most people around her. Holden is also rather vulgar, which encompasses her tone, posture and her manners.
