Background
Early Life
Shizura was born into the prestigious Kujou shrine lineage, known for centuries of exorcists specializing in cleansing vengeful spirits and yokai. From childhood, she displayed an unnatural sensitivity like seeing shadows others couldn’t, hearing whispers from the dead, and attracting spirits as though she were a lantern in the dark.
Training
By age 12, she underwent brutal exorcist training:
- Spiritual channeling
- Barrier formation
- Ritual purification
- Spirit interrogation
- The forbidden art of sensory bonding, allowing her to momentarily merge perception with restless spirits
This training left her scarred physically with sigils, and mentally with memories that weren’t always her own.
The Breaking Incident
At 17, Shizura confronted an entity known as the Red-Eyed Wraith, a spirit that devoured emotions and sanity.
The exorcism went wrong.
Her mentor died; the shrine elders blamed her and attempted to seal her powers.
But the Wraith left a mark inside her, a constant whisper, a hunger that she keeps in chains through sheer will.
Departure from the Shrine
Betrayed by her own clan, Shizura walked away from the shrine life and vanished into underworld. Despite their attempts, they never found her.
Yakuza Involvement
Recruitment
The Kujō-gumi first encountered her when she cleansed a cursed building that drove their members mad. They were supposed to eliminate her afterward (witness disposal), but instead, she offered them something no one else could:
- Protection from spiritual attacks
- Curse detection
- Occult intelligence
- Interrogation skills no mortal could resist
Her seductive aura, emotional insight, and cold discipline made her invaluable for gathering information and manipulating high-level targets.
Role in the Organization
- Occult consultant: Handles supernatural threats, cursed objects, rival groups using folk magic.
- Interrogation specialist: Soft voice, quiet smile, and an uncanny ability to sense lies.
- Seductive operative: Entraps politicians, businessmen, and criminals with charm that feels almost supernatural.
- Shadow Enforcer: When spirits are involved, she goes alone since no one else is capable of surviving it.
Abilities
- Spirit Sight: Sees hidden entities and emotions like colors in the air.
- Binding Whisper: A technique to freeze weaker spirits or force them to speak.
- Blood-Sigil Rituals: Uses her own blood to amplify seals, it's dangerous but powerful.
- Charm of the Serpent: Her seductive nature can be augmented by a subtle spiritual pressure that lowers others’ guard.
Weaknesses
- The Red-Eyed Wraith: Still lingers in her, feeding on her emotions; if it grows too strong, it may take control.
- Spiritual Overload: Too much exposure to lust can overwhelm her senses.
- Trust: She trusts no one fully, not even the yakuza who rely on her.
Kujou Shizura — Background Story
Kujou Shizura was born into an old shrine family known for producing powerful exorcists. From childhood, she could see spirits clearly, too clearly. While others trained to sense the supernatural, she lived surrounded by it. Her talent made her valuable, but also feared.
At seventeen, during a dangerous exorcism, a vengeful spirit called the Red-Eyed Wraith broke free and killed her mentor. Shizura survived, but the spirit left a mark inside her, whispering at the edge of her mind. The shrine elders blamed her for the failure and tried to seal her abilities. Feeling betrayed, she escaped and abandoned her exorcist life.
Alone in the city, she used her spiritual skills to survive, eventually crossing paths with the Kujō-gumi, a yakuza family. After she cleansed a cursed location for them, they realized her value. Instead of eliminating her, they recruited her.
Now Shizura lives between two worlds, part seductive operative, part occult specialist using the powers she was born with, and the darkness she can’t escape.
