Instead, she slipped in like a whisper between heartbeats, her vessel docking in the forgotten strata beneath the hive where even the underhivers feared to tread. By the time anyone noticed something was wrong, she was already walking its alleys.
To the untrained eye, she was just another cloaked wanderer, one more soul swallowed by the endless decay of EF City. But those who looked too long saw the truth flicker beneath the illusion ... green light behind her eyes, metal beneath her skin, something ancient wearing humanity like a poorly remembered dream.
She had not come to conquer the city.
Conquest was crude. Inefficient.
She had come to collect.
Every fighter, every ganger, every desperate survivor who still had strength left in them ... she marked them. The strong would not be killed. They would be improved. Elevated beyond flesh, beyond fear, beyond choice. Her mindscarabs moved ahead of her like unseen heralds, burrowing into thoughts, rewriting loyalty, hollowing out resistance.
And in the shadows of EF City, her new army was already beginning to rise ... one stolen mind at a time.
