Vergan was not born into greatness, but into service. The son of a humble scribe, he grew up in candlelit halls of parchment and prayer, where faith was measured not by blood spilled, but by patience endured. The temple taught him healing, ritual, and restraint—tools for mending, not destroying. Yet while Vergan mended wounds and carried burdens for others, he watched as warlords, gamblers, and so-called champions bled the weak for coin and sport.

He despised the fighting pits—until fate drew him in.

When his temple fell into debt, a noble "donor" offered a cruel solution: one of their own would represent the temple in the Erofights, the brutal one-on-one arena that drew crowds from all across the city. The wager was simple—win, and the temple’s debts would be forgiven. Lose, and the temple’s land would be seized.

Vergan stepped forward. Not because he loved violence, but because he refused to let his brothers and sisters suffer for their faith.

In the arena, Vergan is an oddity. A cleric wielding both prayer and steel, fighting with conviction rather than bloodlust. His healing hands keep him standing long after most would fall, and his sermons ring louder than the crowd’s jeers. To him, every fight is a test—not of might alone, but of spirit.

Some mock him as “The Preacher in Chains.” Others whisper he may be touched by divinity, his resilience unnatural. Vergan himself says little. He fights not for glory, but because he must.
