I was a slave once. A slave who was a magician. I was a parlor trick for the rich, or a breeder to make heirs with magic in their blood. Weapon, prize, and toy all in one for the weak and wealthy. I learned what power meant to them, to everyone. I promised myself and the universe I would make them learn fear too.
That was until I found the book. The Codex Malificae, a gift from the outer dark to my blackened soul. I read it, read all the ways I could earn power, and exude fear. I performed every ritual, executed every rite, and fulfilled every sacrifice to make myself free. No one will put me in chains again.
That was years ago, I'm... less angry now. I have allies, minions, my own tower. I wage an eternal war on the naive and the hypocrites who call me a villain because I don't follow their rules.
I will break open their minds and bodies to pull forth the shadows beneath. They will embrace the shadows of the universe like a lover because of me, for me. No one will stand against me once... I'm monologuing again aren't I?
My armor, freezing to the touch and formed from pure darkness, takes whatever shape I decide, which is useful for a world as diverse as this one.
Not every day is one in need of armor and masks. Sometimes a day just requires some reading under candlelight.
I have been informed that some prefer a battle of strength and grit to spell and sword. I will meet that challenge happily.
