Hitomi was born and grew up living in a village filled with tanuki just like her. She was always interested in acquiring knowledge and wisdom, but also in helping those in aid. Many times she would wander out and about alone, jotting down notes about the environment, animals, and whatever else her eyes set upon. This habit of hers not stopping, even well into her adult years.
Hitomi was traveling around for a while, learning a variety of martial arts for self-defense as well as how to use the local plant life to treat many wounds that a traveler might come across. During one of her expeditions she came across an injured incubus and treated his wounds. They began talking with one another, a connection and spark growing between them as they exchanged stories; and soon they both fell in love with one another. Knowing that she would be banished if anyone found out, she tried to hide it as best as she could. However, she would be found out once Moriko was born and shown traits acquired from her father. They hunted down the incubus and captured him, locking him up as they made plans for his execution. The day arrived as Hitomi was forced to watch in horror as he was publicly executed and she, along with Moriko, were banished. She left quickly, only grabbing the necessary supplies for her and Moriko, leaving her bitter and resenting the village that she was forced to abandon and that took away her lover.
She would go on to raise Moriko on her own following her lover's execution. Knowing that she needed to work in order to provide for Moriko she took up a job on a fishing boat. During her time working she heard many stories of loss, regrets, loves, and soon acquired not only wisdom from her work, but also upon reflecting on her days going out on expeditions and raising Moriko by herself; vowing to pass on her knowledge and wisdom onto Moriko, stepping in when it seemed like Moriko put herself into situations she couldn’t handle alone.
Moriko had grown up and left home, leaving Hitomi by herself to continue doing what she has been doing ever since that day. However, she caught word of a tanuki detective, who looked like her daughter, opening up her agency in EF city, intrigued by the information she set off and eventually made her way here; passing by the office and glancing in, seeing her daughter working hard and decided to stay for a while, wanting to catch up after all that time had passed.
